Knox Street

Knox Street offers something still relatively rare in Dallas: a neighborhood where you can actually do quite a bit on foot. Restaurants, cafés, fitness studios, and some of the city's most design-minded shopping are packed into a few blocks, with the Katy Trail running along the neighborhood's western edge. The trail is more than a nearby amenity. For people who live here, it can become part of the daily routine—morning walks, runs, bike rides, or simply another way to move through the city without getting in the car.

For years, Dallas tended to lump this area together as Knox-Henderson, with Central Expressway dividing two sides of what was largely thought of as one destination. That shorthand makes less sense today. Henderson Avenue has developed a strong personality of its own, while Knox has moved in a more polished, design-forward direction. Longtime Dallas favorites now sit alongside elevated fashion and home retailers, restaurants, luxury residences, and a remarkable amount of new development. What was once primarily a street for shopping and dining is becoming a more complete urban district.

Living in Knox generally means embracing a more urban form of housing. Condominiums, townhomes, apartments, and newer luxury residences make up much of the neighborhood, from established buildings to a growing collection of high-end residential developments. Single-family homes exist, but they aren't the defining housing type here. Buyers looking for a traditional house and yard will find considerably more choices in the residential neighborhoods surrounding Knox. The tradeoff is fairly straightforward: Knox is less about land and more about having restaurants, shopping, fitness, and the Katy Trail close to your front door.

The location adds another layer to its appeal. Highland Park is just across the way, SMU is nearby, and Uptown and Downtown are only minutes south. That puts residents close to several of Dallas' major business districts while keeping some of the city's most established residential neighborhoods equally accessible.

Knox is also in the middle of one of the most significant concentrations of luxury development in central Dallas. New residences, hospitality, office space, restaurants, retail, and public areas are arriving within an already compact district. The larger story isn't any single building or opening. It's what all of those pieces create together: a neighborhood where more of everyday life can happen within a relatively small footprint.

That may ultimately be what sets Knox apart. The new development is changing its skyline and expanding what is possible here, but one of its most valuable pieces of infrastructure was already in place. The Katy Trail gives the neighborhood a connection—to Uptown, to the outdoors, and to a different way of moving through Dallas—that would be difficult to recreate from scratch.
