Created for America’s 250th anniversary year, The Statue of Liberty from Bartholdi to Warhol explores 150 years of an American icon through art, popular culture, and changing ideas about liberty. The exhibition is anchored by one of only five domestic-scale bronze reductions made during Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi’s lifetime.

The Amon Carter Museum debuts The Statue of Liberty from Bartholdi to Warhol on Saturday, tracing 150 years of one of America’s most recognizable symbols through fine art and popular culture.

Go on opening day for Liberty Talks, an afternoon exploring the meaning of liberty through art, history, music, and poetry.

And then don’t head home just yet…

The Kimbell’s Two Buildings, One Museum tour explores its two architectural landmarks—the original Louis I. Kahn museum and Renzo Piano’s later pavilion. Two Pritzker Prize-winning architects. Two very different buildings. One remarkable museum. And conveniently, it’s just steps from the Amon Carter.

The Nasher’s Sketching Tour: Roy Lichtenstein in the Studio trades the usual gallery stroll for a more creative experience—slow down, look closely, and put pencil to paper.

No masterpiece required. But a pencil and notebook are.

This weekend, Fort Worth makes a compelling case for the short drive—with world-class art and architecture, a rodeo steeped in history, and a little Texas country after dark.

And if you’re staying closer to home, the Nasher has an art experience worth picking up a pencil for.

I’ll keep looking beyond the obvious—for the places, experiences, and occasional road trips that make living in North Texas interesting.
